Walter received a BS Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and PhD from the University of Houston. He was a Research Associate at Columbia University, Associate Professor at Carnegie-Mellon University, Section Head at Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Sr Scientist at PPG, and retired as a Sr Research Associate from ExxonMobil. Currently he is a Sr Technology Consultant at Oriental Silicas Corporation. Walter received 37 patents, 5 trade secrets, authored 159 publications, made 179 scientific presentations, and gave a 1-week Tire Technology Training course at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, where he was an Adjunct Professor. Awards include: Sparks-Thomas Award, and Melvin Mooney Distinguished Technology Award from the Rubber Division, American Chemical Society; Distinguished Corporate Inventor, PPG; Award of Appreciation, ASTM F9 Committee on Tires; International Rubber Conference Medal; Joe Hightower Award, Houston Section ACS; ACS Southwest Regional Award; and the Harold Herzlich Distinguished Technology Award sponsored by International Tire Exhibition and Conference.
